Shilajit
🌿 (Asphaltum punjabianum) or Mineral Pitch
Also known as “The Destroyer of Weakness”
📖 Overview
Shilajit is a powerful mineral-rich resin found in the Himalayan mountains, formed over centuries from decomposed plant matter. Revered in Ayurveda as a superior Rasayana, it is traditionally used to support vitality, stamina, cognition, and rejuvenation at a deep cellular level.
📜 Traditional Use in Ayurveda
Shilajit is described as Yogavahi (a catalyst that enhances the effects of other herbs), Balya (strengthening), and Medhya (intellect-enhancing). It is considered among the greatest rejuvenatives in Ayurveda, especially for Vata and Kapha imbalances.
Charaka Samhita (Chikitsa Sthana 1.3.62):
“Shilajit is the conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness.”
Bhavaprakasha Nighantu (Dhatu Varga, Verse 16):
“Shilajit katu tikta kashaya rasa ushna virya balya rasayana vatakaphahara”
“Shilajit is pungent, bitter, astringent, heating, strengthening, rejuvenative, and pacifies Vata and Kapha.”
Traditionally mixed with warm milk, ghee, or herbal decoctions to amplify Rasayana effects.
🍵 Suggested Use
Shilajit is available in:
-
Resin (Raw form): Dissolve a small pea-sized amount (100–300 mg) in warm water or milk
-
Powder or Capsules: Often standardized for fulvic acid content
-

Authentic Shilajit should be purified (Shodhana) before internal use.
